Zalmanov baths constitute a harmless means of combating ageing as well as disease. In what follows we shall deal with two forms of liquid preparation: an emulsion and a solution, each possessing its own specific dosage.
The white emulsion and the yellow solution each have their own indications. The former produces a form of capillary gymnastics, stimulating the cutaneous capillaries and, through them, all the organs of the body; it therefore acts upon the general condition of the organism. It tends to raise arterial blood pressure.
The latter, by intensifying internal combustion and by dilating the capillaries, assists in dissolving pathological deposits in the articular cavities, in the periarticular tissues, in the walls of the blood vessels, in the tendons, and even in the crystalline lens (cataract).
This bath lowers arterial blood pressure. Both preparations possess highly pronounced analgesic properties. The two forms of turpentine baths, whose actions complement one another, make it possible to adapt the treatment to each individual case and to modify it at any moment.
The yellow solution promotes the resorption of exostoses encountered in hypertrophic deforming rheumatism, as well as calcium deposits in the ligaments and tendons.
In the after-effects of cerebral hemorrhage and in cases of myelopathy, the yellow solution helps to wash away the remnants of dead cells surrounding the surviving neurons, relieves the neurons from compression by metabolic residues, and creates favorable conditions for their reactivation and recovery.
Therapeutic effects:a) resorption of deposits and the dissolution of precipitates and large molecular aggregates;
b) a general artificial elevation of body temperature;
c) perspiration and the elimination through the skin of sodium chloride and urea.
After the baths no acceleration of respiration or tachycardia is observed.
The “yellow” and the “white” turpentine preparations possess pronounced analgesic properties.
In cases of sciatica, relief from pain is usually obtained after 14–18 baths (in individuals of robust constitution the baths may be taken daily). In cervico-brachial neuritis improvement is generally observed after 24–30 baths.
In the sequelae of poliomyelitis the musculature gradually becomes stronger, and the ability to walk without orthopedic appliances may be restored after approximately eighteen months. In the after-effects of traumatic injuries - whether from war wounds or various accidents - ankylosis may be cured within three to four months.
By combining the two liquids (the white and the yellow preparations) in different proportions, a wide therapeutic field is created, allowing the treatment to be adapted to the condition of each individual patient.
These baths also produce an additional effect: the entry into the bloodstream of amino acids through capillaries that are opened during the treatment and that had previously remained closed.
